Credit bureau report fraud alert Archives
Can anyone help with possible credit fraud?
I recently started receiving mail at my home address but not addressed to me or the previous owner. Normally I wouldn’t care – but I am receiving credit solicitations. Does this mean that someone is applying for credit using their name but possibly my address?
I have not received anything other than solicitations- no bills, statements, etc.
Do I need to be concerned?
Can you really get away with credit card fraud?
My friend has a phishing site and does credit card fraud. He makes alot of money which goes into his bank account. When I ask him, if they could track him down. He tells me that it’s very rare for them to do so because it costs money, etc. So could he really get away with doing this? (BTW, he lives in Canada)

How can I change my contact informatiton on an extended credit fraud alert?
I had my identity stolen (credit card information, SSN, etc.) and filed a police report in order to have a 7-year alert placed on my credit report. The idea is if anyone tries to open new credit, an alert directs the merchant/bank to call me immediately.
I moved and got a new phone number; I can’t find any way to contact the credit unions in order to update my information. I have spent 3+ hours on hold, trying to find the right contact, and I can’t find the right person to help me!
What are the credit card fraud penalties?
I have a friend (I swear this isn’t me) whose mother filed for credit cards and loans under both her and her sister’s credit lines, forging their names on the signatures for the money. It has gotten to the point where there is about $80,000 each girl ($160,000 total) in total debt. She has no prior offenses, so if charges were filed, what kind of penalties would the mother be looking at if she were charged with Credit Fraud?
If I decide not to prosecute someone for credit card fraud will my credit be ruined?
Two people used my credit cards without my consent. I filed a police report and they were arrested and jailed for 7 weeks. Their hearing is on Jan. 14 and I want to drop the charges even though they already confessed to everything. I was told that as long as I filed a police report I was OK. If I drop the charges now will my credit be ruined or is it still fraud?
is this credit fraud and what could i face in court?
my dad and i have the same name. he allowed me to use his credit card to make a 5k charge while i was still living at home. i now live in another state and he now is threating to press charges. its been over a year and numerous payments have been made. Am i in legal trouble? our credit reports were also merged for awhile and i recieved credit offers in the mail at my new residence and opened a card not knowing that it was under his social. Again, numerous payments have been made. Can i be charged for fraud on that too?

Do local police seriously investigate credit card fraud?
Do local police seriously investigate credit card fraud?
For amounts say around $700 do local police departments investigate credit card fraud or do they not usually bother? At what amount do they care?
How about bank companies and credit card companies, do they investigate it for amounts around $700.
My card was stolen last week and although they said I will be reimbursed, I was just wondering if they will investigate such a small amount. The card was stolen to make purchases online, so there is no real identity of hte person, will they be able to track them down?
How long does it take to investigate?
I was charged with credit card fraud but the charges were dismissed-what now?
I’ve been worrying that this credit card fraud thing i have on my juvinile record (15 yrs old) is going to kill me. Today I found out that it is on my juvinile record but it says the charges were dissmissed. So it’s on there but the charges were dismissed. I have nothing else on my record. Can this be held against me or am I just being paranoid?
